My mom has been making this since I can remember.
It was a Christmastime treat.
We would all be in the tiny kitchen helping her. She was the caramel maker, and we were the popcorn poppers. Each four of us kids taking our turns shaking the pot around on the gas stove so the kernels cooked evenly in the oil.
She would package them in big ziploc bags and then put a bow and little Christmas label on them. We’d pile in the car and begin the delivering!
Oh! I can still remember the way the kitchen smelled, and the way it made me feel!
Such a wonderful memory!
what ingredients do I need?
- 5 Quarts of popped corn
- Karo Syrup
- Sweetened Condensed Milk
- Brown Sugar
- Butter
- Vanilla
That’s it!
do I have to pop the corn on the stove top?
Oh my gosh, NO!
We always made our popcorn on the stove-top. To this day, it is the ONLY way I make it. That doesn’t mean mine is the “right way”, so please, if you like air-popped or even microwave popcorn, you can totally try that too.
You do you! That is the best part about cooking. Adjust food to you liking!
(BUT…if you haven’t tried it on the stove it just might become your new favorite! )
