A Christmas tradition that we have every year is buying and decorating a gingerbread house. Well this year I found this gingerbread house recipe and pattern on Pinterest from Simply Recipes. So… a homemade house is what we were going to do!
We bought some colorful candy to decorate the house with.
We made the dough, rolled it out, and then measured and cut the patterns on paper.
We cut the dough and put it on the baking sheets.
Once they were baked and cooled, we made the icing, and started building. We started putting the the roof on and hubby suggested that we wait for 30 minutes, but me being my impatient self didn’t listen and the house started caving in so we had to take the roof pieces back off…the reason there is frosting on the roof pieces.
So I got the “I told you…”
( Hmph!…OK, He was right.)
After the wait we got to decorate…We had left over dough so we cut out gingerbread men cookies with the intent to decorate and eat..after a taste… We decide that gingerbread smells good, looks good, but the flavor is just not for us! We don’t eat it anyway, so it was fine with us!
We stood the gingerbread men up around the house and used the icing to hold them there.
We had enough dough leftover to make a giant gingerbread man so we used up the rest and Pretty Princess went crazy with it.
Proud of her work!
We joked that her gingerbread looked like a two year old did it…She was laughing so hard at herself!
Love that girlie!
What are some of your traditions? I would love to hear them!
