Grab yourself a jar and glue a little plastic toy to the top, fill with candy and you have yourself the cutest little gift!
Remember this? I posted this at the beginning of the week!
Okay, so I know this is not a new concept, but not all are done the same and this one I made, is pretty darn cute..if I do say so!
This is the jar that I used. Yep, a salsa con queso cheese dip jar. They are the perfect size and shape!
I love these cuties! Oh, and the possibilities!
WHAT DO I NEED?
- A Jar
- A topper
- Paint (spray, acrylic, chalk) take your pick
- e-6000, hot glue gun
- candy or other filler
- paintbrush/sponge brush
HOW TO
Start by cleaning and drying a jar. I say “a jar” because you can use any jar really, a pickle jar, a canning jar, or any kind that fits what you have in mind. Choose the toy you want to attach to the center of the lid, then paint.
For this jar, I used brown acrylic paint first, then when it was dry I painted over it with white chalk paint so I could distress it.
WAYS TO DISTRESS
- Use a wet paper towel and wipe off random spots while the paint is still slightly damp.
- Use a piece of sandpaper and “scratch” parts of the paint off. This is the way I usually do it. Make sure the paint is completely dry and you don’t use a heavy hand or else you can scratch off all the paint. Do it lightly.
- Before you apply the white paint, add dobs of Vaseline and paint over it. When it is completely dry, wipe it off and the brown will show underneath.
- Dry brushing technique. Paint the lid the color you want the end result to be. so, in this case, white. Use a dry brush with a little brown paint and then dab it on the paint until it makes you smile!
THE FINISH
Hot glue a tiny bow made of jute and the jar is ready for the candy or whatever you choose to fill it with.
MORE JAR IDEAS
I had a idea as I was writing this. I have this tiny jar that holds capers. It would be a perfect holder for bobby pins! Add a bobby pin to the top and you wouldn’t even have to paint it…and you could use some cute vinyl to label it, Rae Dunn inspired?
- For the bug lover: Bug Topper. Fill with plastic toy bugs
- In the classroom: Crayon topper. Fill with crayons, scissors, glue sticks
- A gift: Any animal. Any kind of treats
- In the bathroom: Any animal. Cotton balls, Q-tips, teeth flossers
Almost anything you can think up, you can make if you find a jar big enough!
