The fresh smell in the air. The blossoms forming on trees, and the greenness of soon to be flowers popping through the dirt. LOVE!
New. Is the best way to describe Spring.. Another year, and a fresh start!
Decorating my mantle for the seasons and holidays is a MUST! I’ve said it before, and I will continue to say it I adore what I like to call “little corners or pops of happiness” around my house!
I love this decor! It is simple, neutral and the earthy farmhouse feel makes me happy!
Me, being the thrifty shopper that I am means that I have a “stash” of stuff that I can repurpose and make whenever the urge strikes!
I usually pick pieces up at thrift stores and dollar tree. It may be absolutely ugly or dust-covered and possible trash in another’s eyes, but if I can see its potential then I snag right up!
Would you believe me if I told you every single thing on this mantle cost me under $10.00? The most expensive thing on this mantle is the flower stems and vases picked up at dollartree. Which cost me a whopping $7.00+tax.
This banner was mage from an old book I picked up from the DI (a local thriftstore) about 8 years ago. I fell in love with the yellowish color of the pages. It was so simple to cut the little bottoms into a triangle shape and then use my circle punch to cut out the letters on simple white printer paper. I adhered them with a gluestick. Then used a hole punch to string pink and white baker twine though each piece. SIMPLE!
what do i need to make my own banner?
- A book
- White paper with letters either printed on or written to spell out S P R I N G
- 3/4′ Hole punch or you can trace a lid of a milk jug, or even a lid to a jar to trace the letters out of the paper with
- Glue stick
- twine,ribbon or jute
This frame is really heavy, like cement heavy, You may notice the bottom corners of this frame broke, but it gives it character and charm I snagged this for next to nothing.
It is simple to put this together. I used another piece of white paper hand drew and cut a bunny out a book page and then glued it on the white paper, made a tiny tail with yarn, and hot glued it on.
putting it together
I don’t spend tons of money on my decor pieces. In fact, a lot of the time I “shop” my house and bring random things together to make it look new. Find baskets you have, old frames you can stick a picture in, candlesticks, wicker balls or candles, vases you may have.
Chose things that you might think would work together and GO FOR IT!
Have you ever “shopped” your home for decor? Especially at this time, when we’re asked to stay home…give it a try. I’d love to see your creations!
