“Potty Prize Jar”

May 3, 2011

I am way beyond excited for this tutorial! {SQUEAL} It is so freaking cute!
I’m just wishing I would’ve done this for my Pretty Princess when she was going through the “Potty Training stage”
Although I was very very blessed because she DID NOT want to wear diapers anymore at 18 months old! {I know…still tiny huh?!}  But she knows what she wants, and I could not for the life of me keep diapers on her!  So we went to the store got her some “Big Girl” Princess Panties and after a week and a few accidents…WA-LAH…I had a potty trained Pretty Princess!  Okay, back to the “PTJ!”
Back at Halloween time I bought a jar from my local thrift store, I jazzed it up with some ribbon and filled it with candy corn, bought some really fun stickers that looked like vinyl and stuck them on the jar spelling out the word..”Treats!”  My Sister-in-Law remembered that jar, and asked if I could come up with something fun and cute for her little Princess to help her with potty training! ….Ummm…Yeah!  So this is how I did the PTJ!
{NOTE}
For those of you that don’t have  a potty trainer……just slap a cute label on it for a
Birthdays, Seasonal Treats, OOH..a teacher gift!  The label can say ANYTHING you want!
This is what you need:
-Paint *I used Krylon Watermelon*
-Old Jar
-Ribbon
-Paint Chip Sample
-Scissors
Gluestick
-Paper Punch
OPTIONAL:
-Laminator
-Ruler
 -2 inch Circle Hole Punch
First thing to do is spray paint your lid, while it is drying you can get started on the rest!
I have two pic of how you can cut the paint chip circle out.
1.  You can trace around the paint lid and hand cut it out
OR…
2..You can use the 2 inch hole punch
After I cut the circle out, I  grabbed the gluestick ,some ribbon
I glued the ribbon on, while it was still connected to the spool so that there was a small piece hanging off.
(I didn’t measure this ribbon)
Then I cut the ribbon to the shape of the circle.
Then I printed off “Potty Prize Jar” onto white paper with some fun fonts and ripped them out, used the gluestick and glued them on and then ran them through my laminator!
*If you don’t have a laminator and want to protect the paper, get some good clear boxing tape and put one piece on the top and one on back!  works like a charm!*
The ribbon for this jar was 11 1/2 inches long
(it is just one of those prego pizza sauce jars)
you might need to just take the ribbon and tie it around the jar to get the correct size.
Choose some cute ribbon you like, I cut mine into 4 inch pieces.
maybe you might like yours shorter..it’s all preference!
Slip the ribbon behind the one you have tied to the jar and tie it in a knot
Continue alternating colors and keep pushing them close together so it will be really fluffy!
The more ribbon you add the fluffy’er’ it will be.
(I cut 6 of each ribbon color at a time, so I wouldn’t “over cut” ribbon)
Paper Punch a hole in your circle and take two colors of ribbon and tie them onto it.  Then one more the attach it to the jar.
When the painted lid is dry, the ribbons are as fluffy as you like, tie the cute tag on
AND….

Then you end up with a CA-UTE Potty Prize Jar!

I filled this one with M&M’s but you could fill it with stickers, rings, bracelets, toy cars, any other kind-of treat you your little Princess or Prince likes!
Have a GREAT day!

Too cute! We used those small plastic dinosaur toys to reward our little guy…they'd be so cute in one of these jars! I'll have to file this away for when our Miss Thang is ready 😉
