$5.00 Magnetic Calendar {Tutorial}

April 26, 2011

Hi you guys!
Back at Christmas time I saw people making these really cute advent calendars out of dollar store pans.
I did end up making one out of a muffin tin…I LOVED IT!  It was so fun and Ca-ute!
Well, I have some calendars  you know the ones you get in the mail or your waitress at your fave restaurant gives you.
They are so not cute! They’re the ones you stick away in some drawer because you only want to look at it when you really need to.
{Well that’s how I am anyway}
I decided I wanted one for everyday display, not just seasonal..even though they are freaking adorable!
Okay…. I’ll admit first I thought I would make it seasonal…you know, use different scrapbook paper for each month and get really cutsie and then…that idea flew out just as fast as it came in!
Lots of little glass stones, all the glueing, not to mention how expensive and how much work that would be!  UGH!  No way!
So this is what I came up with:
   a magnetic calendar for $5.00 and I want to show you all how I did it!
This is what you need:
Pizza Pan
Spray Paint
Scrapbook Paper
Glass Stones
Mod Podge
Magnet strips
Glue Gun
OPTIONAL
Ribbon
E-6000 Glue
Laminator
First off I spray painted the pizza pan black
I googled “free blank calendar printable” and found this one here. You can print it in Landscape or portrait!
 I found the papers I wanted to coordinate with the calendar “base” then I found a cute font I liked…typed out the days of the week.  Next I cut the days of the week out and just used a glue stick to adhere it to the calendar after that it looked a little bare so I made a little “notes” section and some little magnets just for that!  Then I mod podged the paper to the pan.
When it was dry, I added a layer of mod podge on top
of the entire calendar/notes.  You can just use a damp cloth to wipe off the excess mod podge
I used my trusty ole’ computer again and typed out the numbers of the days up to 31,
 the months, holidays, and important dates
 {this is when I realized I could make it a little more festive by changing the scrapbook paper}
I used e-6000 glue if I did it again I would just  use the mod podge to adhere it to the glass
After it is dry just cut around the glass!
Cut up some of your magnet strip and glue them to the back of the glass
(the backs are already sticky, I added just a dab of glue with my glue gun for extra strength)
For the months I cut them in 6 inch pieces and then cut 1 inch pieces of other paper to coordinate it all together. I used my gluestick to glue them on…
Then I ran it through my laminator and then cut them out.
 A close up of the numbers
and…the seasonal ones
This is what the months look like when they were finished.
Oh, and be sure to put a magnet strip on the back of these too!
I drilled some holes into each end at the top and put some black ribbon through it
so it can hang or you can just display it on a easel.  Looks cute either way!
Sorry some of the pictures aren’t the best.  I am working on my photo skills!
( You can store the “extra” magnets and months on the back of the pan if you want to!)
So now for the cost!
Pizza Pan : $1.00 (All a dollar)
Spray Paint: $1.00 (Walmart)
Magnets: $1.97  (Walmart)
Glass stones: $1.00 (All a dollar)
I already had the paper, the mod podge,glue gun, e-6000
I have alot of stuff left over too!
YAY!  Now I have a calendar that I can proudly display!
Have a great day!

    This is a great idea! I love how thrifty this project is, and not too complicated either. Thanks for the tutorial! I am also eager to try your taco soup recipe. I'm your newest follower, too, and look forward to more!

    I love this! It would help me so much right now next to my computer desk. I didn't buy a calender this year (dear me) so I've been forgetting too many functions and dates to count.
    Inspired,thrilled and relieved!
